Dik Manusch - See the people

A couple of years ago I met this man in a romani village in Romania. Even if we couldn't speak the same language I was able to have a good chat with him and his boys in a mixture of Russian, Spanish, Italian and English. When I had spoken to him for a while I asked him if it was ok to take his photo. He said yes with a smile.

My photo of the Romani man ended up on the cover of Dik Manusch (romani for see the person) Magazine. Dik Manusch is a street Magazine that are sold by homeless EU-migrants in Sweden. The salesmen and women are primaly Romani people from Bulgaria and Romania. The magazine costs 50 SKR and the whole profit goes to the seller. The idea behind the magazine is to help people to retain their dignity and to be able to support themselves.

Everyone who works with the magazine works on a voluntary basis. Printing are paid by sponsors or by activist groups around the country were Dik Manusch is sold. You can buy Dik Manusch in Skellefteå, Luleå, Umeå, Södertälje, Katrineholm, Malmö and Stockholm.
