Human rights violations in Sweden

United Nations (UN) recognizes mars 24 as the International Day for the right to the truth concerning gross human rights violations and for the dignity of victims today. According to Article 18 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, every human being has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

Most countries in the world have signed United Nations declaration about human rights. And according to the European Convention of Human Rights which came into force in 1953 shall every citizen in the European Union have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. But how does that work in practice? Has healthcare professionals in Sweden the same statutory right as their Dutch colleagues to follow their conscience and refuse to take part in life-ending activities like euthanasia (assisted suicide) or abortions?

Not giving healthcare professionals the right of freedom of conscience is a violation of basic human rights and has forced healthcare professionals from Sweden to migrate or commute to Countries who follows UN:s Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention of Human Rights. In a way one could call them political refugees because they are refused work in Sweden and have to find work in other countries to get the basic human rights that their own country refuses them.

This is my home town - Husqvarna

Många människor runt om i världen är bekanta med varumärket Husqvarna och du har säkert rest igenom staden med buss, bil och tåg utan att ta dig tid att stanna till. För att stilla din nyfikenhet har jag skapat ett Flickralbum med bilder från Huskvarna så att du och alla dem som är nyfikna på staden runt om i världen ska kunna göra ett besök genom mina bilder.



Många av oss som har fotografering som hobby eller yrke missar ofta att dokumentera vår egen hembygd. Det kanske beror på att det är lätt att bli hemmablind och att det är lättare att få inspiration när man är på resande fot. Med tanke på att det brukar vara bilder från vår hembygd som blir intressantast för omvärlden i framtiden är det lite märkligt att det inte är fler fotografer som dokumenterar sin hembygd. När jag är ute på mina vandringar i Huskvarna har jag i stort sett alltid med en kamera och det har resulterat i en hel del bilder genom åren. Jag har samlat några av dem i ett flickralbum med namnet: "This is my home town - Husqvarna". 



Förvänta er inga lätt eller kraftigt HDR-förljugna foton för glättiga turistbroschyrer. Jag har valt att göra en personlig dokumentation av staden och dess invånare i svartvitt och försöker visa upp staden så oförfalskat som möjligt. Därför har jag valt att lyfta fram både det vackra och det fula så att betraktaren själv ska kunna väva ihop sina tankar runt bilderna till en helhet. I mina ögon är Huskvarna en vacker stad och jag trivs med att bo här på solsidan även om det som i alla städer finns saker som man tycker mer eller mindre om.



Vem vet, kanske kan mina bilder vara med och göra lite extra reklam för bygden? Någon som är på genomresa kanske stannar till i Huskvarna av ren och skär nyfikenhet efter att ha sett mina bilder. Men om ni stannar till i Huskvarna ska ni givetvis passa på att äta den lokala specialiteten kebabpizza på någon av Huskvarnas många pizzerior. Huskvarna har den godaste kebabsåsen och den godaste kebaben på den här sidan av Bosporen och det beror tills stor del på den mycket goda kebabsåsen vars recept kommer från Huskvarna.

The Nuremberg Defense

During the Nuremberg trials that was held between october 1945 and may 1949 many of the accused nazis excused their horrible crimes against humanity with the expression: "I Was Just Following Orders and the law of my nation". Lawful superior orders often known as the Nuremberg defense is a plea in a court of law that a person, whether a member of the army or a civilian, not to be held guilty for actions that was ordered by a superior officer or a public official. 

The Nuremberg defense was not accepted by the judges at the Nuremberg trial who judged that every individual are responsible for their own actions against other human beings despite the laws of the nation or which orders that are given. In their judgement the judges in Nuremberg affirmed the principle of the freedom of conscience. According to the European Convention of Human Rights shall every citizen in the European Union have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. The right to freedom of conscience are often misunderstood in Sweden, the right to invoke freedom of conscience can only be used if healthcare personal have to take part in life-ending activities like abortion or euthanasia (assisted suicide).

In Liberal countries like the Netherlands, Denmark or Belgium as well as in conservative countries like Poland and Italy are freedom of conscience and religion for healthcare professionals a statutory right. Healthcare professionals in those countries don't have to take part in life-ending activities. Their Swedish colleagues don't have that freedom and they risk to lose their job if they decide to rely on their basic human rights and follow their conscience and refuse to obey a given order to take a life. One can ask the question why other countries should listen to Swedish politicians and organizations in democracy issues when they can't live up to their high standards and provide basic human rights like freedom of conscience and religion for it's own citizens?
