Ole Børud band in concert

Ole Børud is a Norwegian musician who his known from his time in extreme Christian metal band Extol as well from his solo recordings. In Extol he played guitar and provided background vocal. As a solo artist he plays guitar and handles the lead vocals. Ole has also moved back to his musical roots which is soul and funk.

I saw Ole Børud band when they played at Gullbranna outside Halmstad in Sweden on the 7th of Mai. The band consisted of a horn section, keyboards, drums, base and two guitars. They took the definition tight sound to a new level, and delivered a concert that was filled with a smart combination of Soul, Funk and West Coast Rock with a touch of Jazz to the excited audience.

The band who played at Gullbranna consisted of Ole Børud - vocals and guitar, Markus Lillehaug Johnsen - Guitars, Frode Mangen - keyboard, Ruben Dalen - drums, Lars Erik Dahle - base guitar, Jens Petter Antonsen - trumpet, Even Skatrud - trombon, Børge Are Halvorsen - saxophone,

Street Photography

I'm a documentary photographer who like to include people in my photos. Since I'm not consider myself to be a street photographer I don't really care about the sometimes infected debate about what street photography is and what it's not.

Bread and butter photography

I used to take nature and landscape photos that I sold to different publishers. I used to call them bread and butter photos since they were a important source of income for me. They paid for film, photo paper, chemicals and new camera gear. The market for bread and butter photos are minimal today. The main reason is that many photographers doesn't charge enough money for their pictures and it's to hard to compete with photographers who give away their photos to publishers for almost nothing. The colour version of the photo in this article was sold to an calender. I took the picture with a good old Canon EOS 1Ds with a Carl Zeiss 28/2,8 T* that was mounted on a tripod.

Black and white are the colors of photography

This is Maria and Ismael. They are Romas and come from a Romanian town. I learned to know them in the summer of 2014. I used to visit them and their friends at their camp in Huskvarna. I hope that I shall be able to visit them, their children and grandchildren in Romania in the nearby future. A color version of the photo has been published in a Swedish Magazine. But personally I prefer this black and white version.

It happens every now and then that I get the question why I prefer black and white? Robert Frank has already given a better answer to that question and therefore I choose to quote him:
- Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to Which mankind is forever subjected.

Can women wear bikinis in Saudi Arabia?

A couple of years ago I visited Sharm el Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula together with my family. The town was filled with tourist from all around Europe, I could hear people speak Russian, English, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch and even some Arabic. The temperature was quite nice and most of the tourists gathered at the beaches were they enjoyed the sunshine and the sea.

I came in contact with one of the Egyptians who worked at the facility. When I had talked to him for a while I asked him the following ironic question:

- Are there similar tourist facilities on the other side of the Gulf of Aqaba and can women wear bikinis there?

He didn't understand my irony, and his answer was quick: 

- No, no, it's Saudi Arabia on the other side they practice a fundamentalist form of Islam and women aren't allowed to dress in bikinis or swimsuits there, they have to cover their whole bodies. He made a sweeping gesture with his arm over the beach to emphasize what he just said. 

That's when he realized that two Russian women in bikini took photos of each other on the reef. The reef is very vulnerable to damage and it's forbidden to walk there. He ran away from the conversation and started to yell in English that they had violated the ban to walk on the reef. The Russian women didn't understand him and waved cheerfully to him and continued to take pictures. The Egyptian got angrier and angrier. A Russian man who could speak English came to his aid and informed the women that they wasn't allowed to walk on the reef.

Magazine Cover

Many photographers count the number of magazine covers that they have had in their career. And some dream of having their first magazine cover. Personally I think that It's quite fun when my photos end up on the cover of a magazine. I had my first magazine cover in the 90s. Since then I think that I've had approximately 60 magazine covers in Sweden and abroad during my career, but I don't know the exact number.

Make me some noise

The Gospel artist Kirk Franklin encourages his fans to make some noise at his concerts. But as much as Krik loves when his audience make him noise as much hates Rock Photographers disturbing image noise when they shoot indoor concerts in low light. 

I took the photo of Kirk with a good old Canon EOS 1D MK II N and a 300 mm lens at 1000 ASA and it has some visible noise. I need a full frame DSLR that is usable up to 25.600 ASA in order to capture the flying moments at concerts without limitations. The Sony A7s is such a camera and it's image noise at 25.600 ASA are comparable with the 1D MK II N at 1000 ASA! I will buy one as soon as it has come down in price. And then I will say goodbye to disturbing image noise.

A loving and caring father

This is Sheng Lu and his youngest daughter Zhanlian who has Down’s Syndrome. Sheng Lu is a loving and caring father who takes good care of his daughter. He and his wife has three children they belong to the Tibetian minority and minorities in China are allowed to have more than one child. Sheng Lu is also very proud of his oldest daughter who got a scholarship and now studies to become a doctor.

A Muslim family in China

I met this father and his two boys in december 2004 when I visited the Chinese province Qinghai on behalf of the Swedish NGO Star of Hope. 20% of the population in Qinghai is Tibetan. Many Tibetans converted from Lamaism to Islam in the 18th century after a Muslim missionary came to the inaccessible and mountainous area were they lived. Nearly 50% of the people that I met were muslim converts. According to the organization Open Doors there's a ongoing Christian revival in the area and tibetans has left both Lamaism and Islam to become followers of Christ.

This tibetan girl was given a chance to build a better future

This photo of a little tibetan girl from Waxi village in the middle of China is one of my most famous photos and a good example that a picture is worth more than a thousand words. I met the girl on the schoolyard in december 2004 when my wife and I was on a assignment for the Swedish NGO Star of Hope. 

When I met her the living conditions for the girl were really bad. Thanks to the articles my wife wrote and the photos that I took the living conditions in the village changed radically. The local commune decided to rebuild the school, hire more teachers, build a better road and drill for a water supply close to the village. The school also received funding from Sweden, which was used to buy media equipment, school books and sports equipment. The girl and the other children in the village was given better educational opportunities and a chance to build a better future for themselves and their families.

The photo promoted the exhibition Meetings in the Middle of China which was the first photographic exhibition that was displayed at an IKEA store in Sweden. Almost 10.000 people saw the exhibition at IKEA in Jönköping. The exhibition has also been published in LIFE Force Magazine and is also a Permanent Exhibition at 591 Photography Blog.

Music Festival Photos From Gullbranna 2015

The Gullbranna festival is a meeting place where you can get inspired and be challenged in the Christian faith, you can listen to good music, meet friends and enjoy the beach and the sea. The festival is held in Gullbranna outside the Swedish town Halmstad the first week in july.



The festival is arranged by the Swedish Alliance Mission Youth (SAU), in cooperation with the NGO Erikshjälpen, Gullbrannagården, Swedish Alliance Mission, the Centre Church in Forserum, Älgabäcksryds Missionsförsamling, Gullbranna Church, Bilda and 350 volunteers.

Blindsides concert at the Gullbranna festival in Sweden

It's more than 20 years since Blindside formed in Tumba outside Stockholm in Sweden. Blindside have never been a mainstream band but still they have managed to sell nearly 500 000 albums since their first album in 1997, that makes them to one of the best selling Christian rock bands in Sweden. 

Blindside has never given in to the record companies who has asked them to tone down their Christian faith in order to sell more records. The members has always followed their hearts. Blindside are rooted in hardcore music but they have always renewed their music. Faith, passion and energy has always been an key ingredient no matter what musical direction they have explored. Blindside know the importance of a good concert and with ten years of touring and almost 700 concerts around the world in all possible places and venues they really know how to deliver a good show. Whether they play in front of 15.000 people at the Cornerstone festival or play smaller venues like the Gullbranna festival in Sweden for 400 people they give everything they got for God and their audience. 

It's obvious that Blindside are a hard working band. They where eager to deliver a good show to their audience when I saw them at the Christian rock festival at Gullbranna in Sweden! Simon Greneheds guitar riffs are epic, Tomas Näslund and Marcus Dahlström takes care of the rhythm section and gives the songs depth and solemnity. Christian Lindskogs vocal performance and intense stage presence gives life to the music and lifts it up to a higher ground and blends perfectly with their heavy but yet melodic sound.



It's obvious that Blindside live for the moment when they can go on stage and share their hopeful lyrics with the audience. The fact that they played in a small venue didn't seem to bother them and they put on a excellent big time show for the audience. Blindside are truly Swedish metal at it's very best and also one of the best live acts in this country!

Stulen identitet

Tänk dig att du bara är 17 år. Du har blivit berövad på din barn- och ungdom. Du fick ta hand om dig själv och dina föräldrar när dina vänner kunde leka och ha roligt. Dina föräldrar söp sig sakta men säkert mot en allt för tidig grav och du fick ärva en stor skuld av dem. Du blev gravid med ett barn som genast togs ifrån dig. Du blev gravid med ditt andra barn, ett barn som myndigheterna också lovade att ta från dig så snart som det fötts. Allt hopp om en bättre framtid rann sakta men säkert ur din unga kropp. Du stod där ensam och rödgråten på gränsen till vad du ytterst klarade av. De sista resterna av din identitet hade blivit stulen. Trots din unga ålder började du se döden som en befrielse.

Då sträcks ett par varma händer ut mot dig. Händer som tröstar dig. Händer som knäpps i bön för dig. Händer som omfamnar dig. Händer som kämpar för dig och ger dig rätt i byråkratins djungel. Händer som skriver om din situation. Händer som gräver djupt i sina fickor och betalar dina skulder. Händer som renoverar din nergångna lägenhet och gör den hemtrevlig. Händer som ger dig trygghet. Händer som återförenar dig med dina barn. Händer som gjuter nytt hopp för framtiden. Händer som för dig från mörker till ljus. Händer som hjälper dig att få tillbaka din identitet.

Tack Gud för att jag har fått vara med och ge Lisa och hennes två små barn en ny och bättre framtid.

Le Viseur nummer två

Det känns skönt att kunna inleda ett blogginlägg med orden SUCCÉ i stor stil. Succé är just precis vad Le Viseur Magazine har gjort. I en stilla förhoppning hade vi i redaktionsgruppen på Le Viseur hoppats på att tidningen skulle få 5 000 läsare. Nu är vi uppe i över 36 000.

Nu återstår det att se om detta nummer också blir en stor succé. Med tanke på den höga kvaliteten på materialet hoppas jag att det blir så och jag ser redan fram emot att få sätta igång att jobba med Le Viseur nummer tre som dyker upp den 30 september.

Le Viseur blev en succé

När vi började planera en ny fototidning för samtida dokumentärfoto i slutet av förra året trodde jag att det första numret inte skulle få mer än 1500 läsare. Två dagar efter premiären har Le Viseur haft nästan 2000 läsare från jordens alla hörn.



Det är oftast inte så lätt att erkänna att man har haft fel men i det här fallet är det enkelt och jag hoppas att även den övriga redaktionsgruppens målsättning på 5000 läsare för det första numret kommer att överträffas innan nästa nummer kommer ut den 30 juni :)



Hittills har jag bara mött positiva kommentarer om tidningen även från dem som jag trodde skulle vara skeptiska. Det verkar som om Le Viseur har en viktig plats att fylla i en tid då annonser, prylrecensioner och tekniksnack översvämmar de andra fototidningarna.

Statistik för de första två dygnen:
Antal läsare: 2 169
Antal visade sidor: 70 212
De flesta besökarna kommer från Sverige, därefter Polen. Ryssland, Tyskland, England och USA har också genererat en del trafik.

När jag skrev det här inlägget i morse hade Le Viseur haft 2 169 läsare. Klockan 17.00 närmar vi oss 6 000 läsare med stormsteg :)

Premiär för Le Viseur – nummer 1

Det finns i dag ett stort antal fotomagasin i Sverige. De flesta har en bred inriktning, och alla fotostilar måste därför samsas om det lilla utrymme som ges mellan de stora och tilltagna reklamplatserna. I sådana magasin tenderar vissa typer av fotografier att hamna i skymundan eller glömmas bort helt. Ett exempel på en genre som alltför ofta fått ge vika för de mer kommersiellt gångbara stilarna är dokumentärfotografin.


Dokumentärfotografin hade sina glansdagar mellan 40- och 60-talen. I dag lever dokumentärfotografin ett undanskymt liv – men den är långt ifrån död. Det finns många fotografer, både i och utanför vårt land, som besitter stora talanger. I första numret av Le Viseur presenteras ett urval av vad svensk dokumentärfotografi har att erbjuda i dag. Och som om inte det vore nog finns även två fotoreportage att fördjupa sig i.

Nätmagasinet Le Viseur har blivit verklighet tack vare mycket ideellt arbete och engagemang. Vi ville tillsammans skapa ett fotomagasin fritt från reklam och prylrecensioner. Vår filosofi grundar sig på att den fotografiska bilden måste få ett större utrymme.

Jag skulle vilja sammanfatta dokumentärfotografin med följande ord: iakttagelsen, närvaron och ögonblicket. Dessa tre ledord går som en röd tråd genom samtliga bidrag.

I det här numret finns tjugofem fotografer representerade. Att gå igenom inkommet material har varit oerhört inspirerande och givande. Det här bådar gott för dokumentärfotografins framtid.

Välkommen till Reclaim Photography Jönköping

Lördagen den 31/3 mellan klockan 11:30-13:30 kommer vi att köra ett Reclaim Photography vid Juneporten i Jönköping. Alla som vill är välkomna att delta och det är fritt att ställa ut de bilderna som man vill.

Konceptet Reclaim Photography har funnits sedan en tid tillbaka. Ett gäng fotografer i Stockholm har ställt ut sina bilder i det offentliga rummet vid flera tillfällen. Nu tar vi konceptet till småstaden. För att markera utgivningen av första numret av Le Visuer kommer vi ställa ut bilder här i Jönköping.

Så här går det till: Alla som vill vara med får vara med. Man tar med sig ett antal bilder. Dessa sätter man upp i det offentliga rummet med exempelvis häftmassa eller något annat som lätt går att ta bort, det är viktigt att man inte gör åverkan.

Jag vill passa på att påpeka att det här inte är ett politiskt evenemang. Reclaim Photography är öppet för alla oavsett deras politiska åsikt eller religion så länge bilderna inte kan uppfattas som kränkande eller stötande. Tanken är att sprida fotografi som konstform utanför den smala krets som går på fotoutställningar och det gör vi genom att ta fotot till den plats där folket finns. Om folk inte kommer på en fotoutställning får utställningen komma till folket.

På sidan sex i dagens Jönköping NU finns det med en kort intervju med mig med anledning av Reclaim Photography Jönköping och det första numret av Le Viseur den 31/3. Say hello to Le Viseur Magazine

Le Viseur is a new net based Swedish magazine for contemporary documentary photos. The first number of the magazine will be published in the end of mars.

Le Viseur is the french word for viewfinder. We want to create a magazine for contemporary documentary photos. Free from commercial adverts and boring articles about cameras and lenses. We want to put documentary photo were it belongs, right in the center of attention. We believe that many people are interested in straight simple documentary photography, free of special effects and manipulations. We want to give these people a forum and a magazine were they can upload documentary photos, read articles, look at photo-essays and documentary photos.

Le Viseur is a magazine who celebrates the art form of documentary photo. Le Viseur shall also be a place were you can discover new documentary photographers from Sweden and other countries.

Vi söker samtida dokumentärfotografier. Svartvitt eller färg? Digitalt eller analogt? Valet är ditt!

Skicka 4-6 fotografier. Bilderna måste vara minst 1400 pixlar på längsta sidan. Berätta gärna lite om dig själv och din syn på fotografi. Uppge även ditt födelseår och vart du bor.
